Description

A Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing large machinery used in construction, mining, agriculture, and other industries. They diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, perform routine maintenance, and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and diagnose issues in heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, cranes, and forklifts.
  • Perform regular maintenance, such as oil changes, lubrication, and filter replacements.
  • Repair or replace defective parts, including hydraulic systems, engines, transmissions, and electrical components.
  • Conduct troubleshooting using diagnostic tools and manual testing methods.
  • Keep records of maintenance and repairs performed on equipment.
  • Ensure all repairs comply with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with operators and other mechanics to determine necessary repairs.
  • Order and manage spare parts inventory.
  • Perform field repairs and emergency breakdown assistance when needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical or vocational training preferred).
  • Certification in heavy equipment mechanics or diesel mechanics is a plus.
  • Experience working with hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy parts and tools.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and regulations.
