The Tax and Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that the company complies with all tax regulations and statutory requirements in the Philippines.

The role involves preparing and filing tax returns, monitoring government compliance deadlines, coordinating with external auditors, and supporting management in maintaining proper internal controls. In a construction company, this includes managing compliance related to project operations, suppliers, and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities:

Taxation Prepare, review, and file all required tax returns (BIR forms such as VAT, EWT, Income Tax, Percentage Tax, Documentary Stamp Tax, etc.).

Ensure timely and accurate payment of taxes to avoid penalties and surcharges.

Maintain and reconcile tax accounts and ensure proper documentation of all tax-related transactions.

Monitor changes in Philippine tax laws, BIR issuances, and ensure company compliance.

Coordinate with external auditors, consultants, and government agencies regarding tax matters.

Regulatory and Compliance:

Ensure compliance with BIR, SEC, LGU, and other government regulatory requirements.

Maintain records of business permits, licenses, and registrations for headquarters and project sites.

Monitor submission of reports and documents to regulatory agencies (e.g., SEC General Information Sheet, Audited Financial Statements).

Assist in tax assessments, audits, and investigations conducted by BIR or other government agencies.

Construction-Specific Compliance:

  • Verify compliance of subcontractors and suppliers with BIR registration, VAT, and withholding requirements.
  • Monitor project-related compliance such as withholding taxes on subcontractor payments and government bidding requirements.
  • Ensure that all construction projects meet government reporting and documentation standards.
  • Internal Controls and Reporting:
  • Develop and implement tax and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Provide regular reports to management regarding tax liabilities, compliance status, and risks.
  • Support finance and accounting in month-end closing and audit preparations.
  • Advise management on the tax implications of business transactions and contracts.
  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Finance, or related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is an advantage but not required.
  • At least 2–4 years of experience in tax and compliance, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Philippine tax laws, BIR processes, and regulatory compliance. Experience in handling BIR audits and assessments is an advantage.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, accounting software, and eBIRForms.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
