Description
The Glass and Aluminum Fabricator is responsible for working with both glass and aluminum materials to create, shape, and assemble various products used in the construction, automotive, or manufacturing industries. This role involves cutting, shaping, assembling, and installing glass and aluminum components according to blueprints, specifications, or customer requirements. Fabricators must ensure the highest quality standards while maintaining safety protocols throughout the production process.
Fabrication of Glass and Aluminum:
- Glass Cutting and Shaping:
- Cut and shape glass using specialized tools (e.g., glass cutters, diamond saws, water jet machines) to meet specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Perform glass polishing, edge finishing, and smoothing to ensure a clean, high-quality finish.
- Aluminum Cutting and Shaping:
- Operate various cutting tools (e.g., saws, cutting torches, CNC machines) to cut, shape, and fabricate aluminum profiles, sheets, and extrusions.
- Use appropriate machinery to bend, punch, or shear aluminum as per specifications.
Assembly and Fabrication:
- Glass and Aluminum Joining:
- Assemble glass panels and aluminum frames or structures using adhesives, sealants, and fasteners (e.g., screws, rivets).
- Work with mechanical fasteners and aluminum brackets to ensure secure and durable assembly.
- Framing and Structural Construction:
- Frame glass panels with aluminum profiles to construct windows, doors, storefronts, curtain walls, or other architectural elements.
- Ensure correct alignment, square framing, and adherence to design specifications.
Customization and Installation:
- Customization of Glass and Aluminum:
- Modify or customize glass and aluminum components to meet specific client requirements or special orders.
- Installation and Fitting:
- Install glass panels into aluminum frames, doors, windows, and other structures at job sites (if applicable).
- Ensure proper sealing and weatherproofing during installation.
Quality Control:
- Inspect the finished products to ensure they meet design specifications, tolerances, and safety standards.
- Check for defects such as cracks, chips, or imperfections in the glass and ensure smooth and accurate edges on aluminum components.
- Verify that joints and seals are properly installed and secure, ensuring durability and safety.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety guidelines while handling glass and aluminum, including the use of appropriate PPE (e.g., gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection).
- Follow safety procedures to avoid injury when handling heavy glass panels and sharp aluminum edges.
- Ensure compliance with relevant building codes and industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO).
Maintenance and Equipment Handling:
- Operate fabrication machinery such as cutting machines, CNC machines, and bending equipment.
- Conduct basic maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot minor issues with machinery or fabrication tools and report any major equipment failures to the supervisor.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain records of production schedules, materials used, and any adjustments made during the fabrication process.
- Report any issues related to production delays, material shortages, or quality concerns to supervisors or project managers.
- Document and track custom orders or special client requests.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with other team members, including engineers, designers, and installers, to ensure that glass and aluminum products meet specifications.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding project progress, material needs, and any potential issues or delays.
Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional training in metalworking, glass cutting, or fabrication is preferred.
Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience in glass cutting, aluminum fabrication, or a related field.
- Previous experience with CNC machines, cutting equipment, or glass processing tools is a plus.
Skills:
- Proficiency in cutting, shaping, and finishing glass and aluminum materials.
- Familiarity with blueprint reading and technical drawings to understand project specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality work with minimal errors.
- Basic measuring and math skills for accurate cutting and fitting.
- Ability to use hand tools (e.g., drills, screwdrivers, saws) and power tools (e.g., angle grinders, cutting torches).
Certifications (Optional):
- Certification in welding or CNC operation.
- OSHA safety training or other construction safety certifications.
THIS POSITION IS BOUND TO GREECE.
