The Lawyer will mainly conduct legal and policy research on three main topics: energy, power, integrity of ecosystems, and the country’s development path. He/she will also draft legal memorandums, assist in drafting pleadings, briefers, reports, and studies on key priority issues. He/she shall report directly to the Head and Deputy Head of Legal, as well as the Thematic Team Lead.

Responsibilities

1. Policy advocacy work

a. Monitor latest developments in the country’s energy industry, ecology, and development path (core issues)

b. Formulate policy briefers, discussion papers, and position papers on these topics

c. Liaise and dialogue with relevant government offices to advocate for policy recommendations

2. Legal work

a. Conduct legal research and draft legal memorandums

b. Draft legal briefs, memorandums, and case summaries

c. Draft, proofread, and finalize pleadings, briefers, reports, and studies

d. Develop strategic legal interventions strategies

e. Manage and/or handle cases

f. Liaise with government offices, partner organizations, and communities regarding legal interventions

Qualifications

1. Excellent command of English and Tagalog

2. Excellent oral and written communication skills

3. Strong analytical thinking

4. Demonstrable experience in conducting researches (highly regarded)

5. Has a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor degree and bar passer

6. Ability to present findings in a variety of formats to a range of stakeholders through strong written and verbal communication

7. Punctuality, intellectual curiosity, willingness to take initiative, and willingness to work under pressure to meet deadlines (highly advantageous)
